Melissa slipped away through the wings, so the hunt went down instead — into prop storage and boiler rooms lit like a horror set. The basement's welcoming committee: a rat the size of a sofa, twisted by whatever is rewriting the city's biology. It went down swinging. Aya walked out with singed nerves and better aim.
A slow, methodical sweep of the dressing-room corridor — locked doors, found keys, drawers full of ammo and notes that make Melissa's transformation feel less like an accident and more like a destiny. The quiet stretch of the night, which in this genre always means something is about to go very loud.
Through the north doors, and there she was — not Melissa anymore. Eve. The first real boss fight of the run: a rehearsal room turned arena, mitochondria burning bright. Aya took the round. Eve took the floor — literally, melting through it and forcing the only way forward: down.
Under Carnegie Hall, following Eve's trail through the dark. There's a gun stashed in the shadows near the stairs, rats overhead dropping loot, and a long tunnel running north. Manhattan's nightmare has a basement, and this is it.
